The Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse season has completed three weeks of play, giving fans and players a chance to get a feel for it.

The first season has presented the most talented players in the world playing under a new format with different rules than the college game.

Lacrosse Extras surveyed 12 college players to get their thoughts on the format and rules of the new professional league. The players represent 12 different conferences across three collegiate divisions.

All players agreed to participate anonymously.

The survey consisted of three ‘yes or no’ questions along with an area for opinions to be given.

Question one read, “Do you like the individual points system, instead of the usual team sports setup (with standings focused on teams)?”

The answers were split half and half.

“I think it’s great because you as an individual get credit… It gives each person something to work harder for each game,” said one player in favor of the points system.

“I personally do not… It’s not regular or original lacrosse. I think by putting this spin on the game, it makes it different and not quite the same,” said a player against it.

While that question produced a mix of answers, the next did not. When the players were asked if they thought the points system was fan friendly, all 12 voted ‘yes.’

The final question asking players if they were a fan of new teams each week revealed 75% of players were for it. Some players left comments revealing mixed feelings about the concept.

“I like that it’s mixed up… Also, I see playing with the same people makes a huge difference and helps chemistry be created,” said a player.

Another added, “I think it can be an advantage for some and a disadvantage for others. I like just sticking with the same teams so audiences can see how they grow and can pick a team to root for.”

Week four of the Athletes Unlimited season begins Friday night on CBS Sports Network.
