Columbia’s New Women’s Lacrosse Coach

With the 2021-2022 school year approaching, Columbia University has announced that Anne Murray will be their new lacrosse head coach, according to Peter Pilling, the university’s athletic director.

“I consider myself fortunate to be able to represent such an esteemed institution and look forward to working with the unique individuals that make up the administration, coaches, staff, athletes, and alumni of Columbia University,” said Murray.

Murray’s lacrosse journey started as a student athlete at Princeton University where she played from 2006-09. She helped lead the Tigers to an Ivy League championship in 2006, four consecutive NCAA Tournament berths, and a 49-22 record in her four years.

During her time at Princeton, Murray coached high school lacrosse club teams and assisted with various clinics throughout the area.

After graduating from Princeton, Murray coached various universities, starting with Mount St. Mary’s in 2009. She then had positions at Virginia Tech and Rutgers.

Murray focused on scouting, recruiting, managing film, and planning practices with a strong focus on player stick skills while at Virginia Tech and Rutgers.

After Rutgers, Murray returned to Princeton as part of their coaching staff under Head Coach Chris Sailer (2013-17). The Tigers won four Ivy League regular season championships and two Ivy League Tournament championships.

Murray then became the Associate Head Coach at Fairfield University, joining Head Coach Laura Field, where she had been since 2017. In her first two years, Murray was able to help the Stags win back-to-back MAAC Championships.

The Stags were able to have a prominent 2021 season with a 13-2 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Now, Murray’s attention shifts to Columbia.

“I will cherish the role as Head Lacrosse Coach and cannot wait to begin the journey ahead with such a passionate group of women, both as players and alumnae,” said Murray.
